Kustaa Saksi
Kustaa Saksi (b. 1975, Kouvola, Finland) is a visual artist and textile designer whose richly woven works explore the borderlands between dreams, nature, and perception. Based in the Netherlands, he is celebrated for his innovative use of the Jacquard weaving technique, combining traditional craftsmanship with experimental materials such as metallic threads, rubber, and phosphorescent yarns. His acclaimed series Hypnopompic and First Symptoms translate the surreal visuals of dreams and migraine auras into complex, kaleidoscopic forms that blur art, science, and mythology.
Over the past decade, Kustaa has developed much of his work at the TextielLab in Tilburg and exhibited internationally, including Borderlands at Vandalorum (Sweden, 2024–25) and In the Borderlands at the Design Museum Helsinki (2023). Recent collaborations include Golden Threads with Oribe and the Iku-Turso Cabinet with Nikari, reflecting his ongoing dialogue between fine art, design, and the tactile poetry of woven form.
